Bullying

Bullying is defined as “a systematic campaign of interpersonal destruction that jeopardizes your health, your career, and the job you once loved. Bullying is a non-physical, non-homicidal form of violence and, because it is violence and abusive, emotional harm frequently results. You may not be the first person to have noticed that you were bullied.

There is no national law prohibiting bullying in the workplace although 33% of the American workforce has reported being bullied at work. Additionally, there is no state law in Illinois prohibiting bullying.

You must be wondering, then, what recourse you have if you have been bullied at work. We can help. Despite the absence of laws expressly prohibiting “bullying,” other existing laws can be used to bring a bully to justice and to hold a negligent employer liable. If you believe you have been the victim of bullying, we are here to help.
