Retaliation
Illinois state and federal law prohibits an employer from retaliating and discharging an employee for engaging in protected activity. The following are some examples of protected activity: employee complains to the employer about violating a state law, opposes discrimination and harassment in the workplace, the employee brings a complaint to OSHA regarding a safety violation in the workplace, or the employee files a workers compensation claim.
A successful plaintiff may recover damages for back pay, front pay, and compensatory damages.
